National Qualifications

Overview

There are three national qualifications in adult education and training and two in adult literacy and numeracy:

National Certificate in Adult Education & Training (Level 4) is made up of 40 credits and is the entry level qualification for people working in the field of adult education and training. It satisfies most NZQA and Industry Training Organisation requirements for teaching staff in tertiary education and training. There are no pre-requisites to entry.

National Certificate in Adult Education & Training (Level 5) is made up of 60 credits and provides additional higher level skills and knowledge for people working in the field of adult education and training. There are no pre-requisites to entry.

National Diploma in Adult Education & Training (Level 6) is made up of 120 credits and provides a higher level professional qualification for people working in the field of adult education and training. There are no pre-requisites to entry.

National Certificate in Adult Literacy and Numeracy Education (Vocational/Workplace) (Level 5) is made up of 40 credits and is designed to develop skills and knowledge in literacy and numeracy education for existing teachers/trainers and workplace educators in the sector.  It is a requirement of some Industry Training Organisations. There are no pre-requisites to entry.

National Certificate in Adult Literacy and Numeracy Education (Educator) (Level 5) is made up of 81 credits and provides additional specialist skills and knowledge in literacy and numeracy education for people seeking a progression from the 40 credit Vocational/Workplace qualification. There are no pre-requisites to entry.

Note: At this point QED Associates does not offer the Literacy and Numeracy qualifications. However, credits gained from our workshops may be credited towards these two qualifications.

Qualification requirements

Apart from the National Diploma in Adult Education and Training all these qualifications have some compulsory unit standards that must be achieved plus elective choices of other standards to make up the credit total. In some cases existing credits you hold from anywhere on the NZ Qualifications Framework may count towards the credit total of the qualification.

How can you get a National Certificate?

QED Associates can assist you in achieving the first three of these qualifications.

By undertaking our adult education and training workshops which are based on the New Zealand Qualifications Framework unit standards you can gain credits toward a national qualification or, by doing enough workshops, achieve the entire qualification.

Credits achieved for one qualification may be able to be cross credited to another qualification.  For example, if you have completed the National Certificate in Adult Education and Training level 4,  up to 20 of your level 4 credits and any level five credits in adult education and training you hold can be cross credited to the National Certificate in Adult Education and Training level 5.
