From compliance to excellence

This workshop is an interactive look at what you need to do to review and improve your practice and record keeping to meet and exceed NZQA's expectations for the Code of Practice for Pastoral Care of tertiary and international learners, under the new combined Code which is now effective as of January 2022. This workshop looks at the transition from the current Codes of Practice and what is different in the new code.

This workshop runs from 9:30 to 3:30pm with a 30 minute break for lunch.  It suits staff who have direct or indirect responsibility for the Code, because NZQA expects providers to shift their focus onto outcomes instead of compliance.

The intended outcomes of this workshop are that participants can:

  1. Explain key elements of the new Code of Practice.
  2. Clarify the Code responsibilities in your job.
  3. Map the student journey with key pastoral care roles in your organisation.
  4. Identify student welfare risk management tasks and resources.
  5. Explain NZQA's reporting requirements for the Code of Practice.

The workshop includes an overview of the Code documentation, summary of responsibilities and valuable insights on where potential pitfalls are.  Previous participants have found the workshop very practical and something of a wake up call, here's some recent feedback:

Previous participants have said "Excellent with a very good facilitator" and "QED’s analysis really makes sense of it instead of me just reading about it all on a website”. Another said “Very informative and targeted to ensure we are aware of our responsibilities” as well as “some points were missing from our system, will rethink our procedure”.

The usual venue for the QED Code of Practice workshop is the wonderful Lake House Arts Centre, 37 Fred Thomas Drive, Takapuna - just 5 minutes from the Auckland Harbour Bridge and with lots of free parking.  However, we are currently running this workshop online.

Cancellation Policy:
